Overview

BITS Law School is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

The School offers two five-year integrated degree programmes: B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). They are designed to train students into becoming innovative, socially conscious, empathetic, and well-rounded legal professionals with a grounding in various disciplines of social sciences, arts, humanities, and management while appreciating the influence of technology. The curriculum is designed keeping in mind the current and future needs of law firms, judiciary, industry, legislature, academia, government, and the civil society. Additionally, students apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios through mooting, clinical legal education, group projects, and internships.

Our students also learn the leadership skills required to succeed in the workplace. We adhere to the international standards of legal education that conform with the norms of the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Graduates of BITS Law School will have a positive contribution to law practice, advance the strong character of the bar and the bench, and push the boundaries of legal research and academics to cement India’s position as a hub for high-quality legal education in the world.

Programme Learning Outcomes B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)

1. Legal Knowledge and Reasoning

  1. Demonstrate a robust understanding of fundamental concepts, principles, theories, and ongoing debates in core areas of substantive and procedural law.
  2. Familiarity with the methods of legal reasoning, including the ability to identify legal issues, to conduct detailed analysis of fact scenario, and apply relevant legal principles accurately.
  3. Familiarity with the general approaches to the study of law, principal sources of law, key institutions and legal processes in the Indian and international contexts.
  4. Demonstrate ability to synthesize legal documents and undertake methodical legal analysis.
  5. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge in areas of specialization in law.
  6. Familiarity with alternate dispute resolution mechanisms, including negotiation, conciliation, and arbitration.
  7. Familiarity with general principles of drafting, pleading, and conveyancing.

2. Interdisciplinary Research and Critical Thinking

  1. Demonstrate ability to address diverse legal challenges using an interdisciplinary understanding of law and skills of critical thinking.
  2. Familiarity with key concepts in social sciences and humanities, and their interactions with law that are relevant to legal studies and practice.
  3. Proficiency in locating, analysing, synthesizing, and critically evaluating primary and secondary legal resources.
  4. Ability to use qualitative and quantitative skills for consolidating, synthesizing, and analysing information across various disciplines.

3. Oral and Written Communication Skills

  1. Proficiency in verbal communication skills for courtroom advocacy, client meetings, negotiations, mediations, and collaboration.
  2. Proficiency in composing well-organized scholarly and professional legal documents using clear, concise, and persuasive language.

4. Professional Competencies and Organizational Readiness

  1. Ability to work independently on projects and the tenacity to work collaboratively within teams.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of working in diverse multi-cultural teams in a professional manner.
  3. Demonstrate skills of time management, meeting deadlines, and maintaining strong organizational skills.

5. Ethical Behaviour and Professional Integrity

  1. Ability to conduct oneself professionally with conscientiousness, integrity, and with respect for all parties involved.
  2. Demonstrating empathy, intellectual honesty, and a strong commitment to ethical conduct.
  3. Demonstrate ability to exercise ethically responsible judgment in practicing law and in maintaining bar and bench relations.
  4. Familiarity with the rules of professional ethics of work within the legal system.
