PROGRAMME

Q1. What are the programmes offered by BITS Law School?

BITS Law School offers two five-year integrated degree programmes: B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.).

Q2. What is the total number of seats in each programme?

The total number of seats at BITS Law School is 180; 120 seats in the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme and 60 seats in the B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme.

Q3. What are the specialisations offered at BITS Law School?

We offer four future-ready specialisations:

  1. Corporate & Financial Law
  2. Technology & Media Law
  3. Entertainment & Sports Law
  4. Alternate Dispute Resolution & Mediation

Q4. After completing the programme, what career opportunities will I have?

Students’ dynamic internship journey throughout the programme will climax with placement drives in their 4th and 5th years, giving students face time with top recruiters across law firms, and industries, before which they will be guided and primed to hone their resumes and interview skills.

Our programmes and Industry Interface & Career Advancement Office (IICAO) will equip students to become well-rounded legal professionals and develop their application toolkit. This will enable students to engage with recruiters in their field of choice with confidence. The IICAO will work to bring on campus opportunities in the fields of litigation, corporate law, environmental law, taxation law, economic law, and entrepreneurship, among others.

ELIGIBILITY

Q1. Who can apply for the programme?

Our eligibility criteria are the following:

  • Completed grade 12 or equivalent from a recognised board with a cumulative score of at least 45%
  • BITS Law Admissions Test/CLAT/LSAT-India/AILET/MH CET Law entrance test score

Note: Applicants yet to receive their final grade 12 and/or law entrance exam scores are eligible to apply and will be expected to indicate in their application form that they are awaiting their results. An application will be considered complete only once all relevant scores have been shared.

Q2. Are students with a gap year eligible to apply?

Yes. Students with a gap year can apply provided they have completed grade 12 and have law entrance test scores valid for the AY 2024-2025 intake.

Q3. Is there an entrance test organised by BITS Law School to be eligible for the programme?

Yes, there is a separate entrance test organised by BITS Law School.

Q4. What is the structure of the BITS Law Admissions Test?

The BITS Law Admissions test is an online proctored 60-minute, multiple-choice question test with 4 sections and a total of 70 questions. The sections are as follows:

Section 1: Attention to Detail – This section will test your ability to pay attention to finer details in a short span of time. It will test your ability to find differences, and inconsistencies in patterns, identify elements, etc.

Section 2: Reasoning Ability – This section will test your ability for abstract and critical reasoning

Section 3: Verbal Ability – This section will test your reading comprehension, grammar, sentence correction, etc.

Section 4: Domain Ability – This section will test your general legal knowledge

Q5. Will appearing for the BITS Law Admissions Test give me an upper hand over other test scores?

No. All the accepted entrance test scores (CLAT/LSAT/MH CET Law/AILET/BITS Law Admissions Test) are benchmarked against each other. You will not get a special advantage for appearing for the BITS Law Admissions Test. However, if you submit more than one test score, we will consider the best score for the processing of your application.

Q6. If I get rejected or waitlisted, can I appear for the BITS Law Admissions test to better my chances of getting an offer?

No. Once your application is submitted, you will not be able to change your choice of appearing for the BITS Law Admissions test. The choice, which you will select in your application form will be the final choice considered throughout the processing of your admission.

Q7. Which entrance test scores can students use to apply?

Students can use any one of the following entrance test scores to apply to BITS Law School

  1. BITS Law Admissions Test
  2. CLAT
  3. LSAT-India
  4. AILET
  5. MH CET Law

Q8. Are test scores mandatory to fill?

Yes, it is mandatory for applicants to provide valid BITS Law Admissions Test/CLAT/LSAT-India/AILET/MH CET Law scores to complete their application. If an applicant is awaiting their law entrance test scores, they can submit their application by availing the option of ‘awaiting results’. However, applicants must update their applications with their respective entrance test scores upon receiving them, failing which their application will be disqualified.

Q9. Is there a minimum entrance test score required to apply?

BITS Law School evaluates applicants holistically. While a standardised test score is mandatory, there is no minimum score required for students to apply.

Q10. Does BITS Law School give preference to any of the standardised tests in the admission process?

No. There is no special preference given to a particular test. Each test is evaluated as per its own scoring profile.

Q11. Can I apply with CLAT 2022 scores?

No, only CLAT 2023 scores are valid for the cohort commencing in August 2024.

Q12. Can I apply with LSAT 2019 scores?

No LSAT-India 2024 scores are accepted only. You must have a valid LSAT-India score at the time of applying for admission.

Q2. What are the steps in the admissions process?

BITS Law School has a three-step admissions process:

  1. Step 1: Register on our online application portal
  2. Step 2: Submit the application form
  3. Step 3: Appear for personal interview

Q3. Do I need to complete my entire application in one go?

No, our online application portal allows you to save sections of your application so that you can log in multiple times at your own comfort to complete your application as per the stated deadlines.

Q4. What are the criteria for admissions?

BITS Law School’s admissions process has been carefully curated to holistically evaluate each applicant, taking into account:

  1. Academic performance at the higher secondary level
  2. Law entrance examination score (BITS Law Admissions Test/CLAT/LSAT-India/AILET/MH CET Law)
  3. Co-curricular achievements
  4. Written and Oral Communication skills

Q5. If I do not have my grade 12 final scores at the time of applying, what should I do?

If you do not have your grade 12 final scores at the time of application, you can indicate that you are ‘awaiting results’ on your application form and share any of the following for the interim period – predicted scores for grade 12/ pre-boards scores/ final grade 11 scores.

Q6. Is there any application fee?

No, there is no application fee for the 2023-2028 cohort.

Q7. When will the application form be available?

The application form is available right now. Students can visit our admissions page and click on ‘Apply Now’ to get started with their application.

Q9. Can I apply for more than one programme?

No. You can only apply for one of the two programmes. Your preference will have to be clearly indicated on your application form.

Q10. Who are the foreign nationals or OCI/PIO for the purpose of admission at BITS Law School?

  1. Foreign Nationals: The applicants who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold a valid passport of a foreign country
  2. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO): As notified by the Govt. of India

Q11. I provided incorrect details while submitting my application form. How should I make corrections?

Q12. Can I submit my scores separately after I submit the application form?

Yes. You can submit your application by availing the option of ‘awaiting results’. However, you must update your relevant scores upon receiving them, failing which your application will be disqualified. An application will only be considered complete only once all relevant scores have been shared.

Q13. Is it important to mention extracurricular activities in my application?

BITS Law School evaluates applicants holistically, thus, we highly recommend mentioning your extra-curricular activities (if any).

Q14. Do I need to send hard copies of my mark sheets and other required documents as part of the application?

No, this is not required. All documents will need to be uploaded to our online application portal.

Q15. How will I find out if I make it to the interview round?

You will be notified via email about the status of your application. You can also check the application portal to view the status of your application.

Q16. How will the personal interview be conducted?

Personal Interviews will be conducted via Zoom/telephone.

Q17. What should I expect and how can I prepare for my personal interview?

Personal interviews will be based on the application submitted by you. However, it may be a free-flowing conversation too.

Q18. What are the language proficiency requirements for applicants?

Applicants will need to demonstrate strong English skills, as the medium of instruction for the programme will be English.

Q19. Are there any quotas at BITS Law School?

No. There are no quotas at BITS Law School and all applicants are required to follow the regular application process.

FACULTY/LEADERSHIP

Q1. Who are the faculty members teaching at BITS Law School?

Q2. What is the faculty-student ratio at BITS Law School?

The faculty-student ratio at BITS Law School is 1:20.

Q3. How accessible will the faculty be?

All faculty will be accessible outside of classroom hours. Faculty will announce their office hours at the start of the course. Students can seek an appointment with the faculty based on the same. They will also be available on email and other electronic mediums once courses commence.

FEES AND FINANCING

Q1. I have received an offer; how do I revert?

Your offer letter will mention the timelines for responding to your offer. You can also log in to the student dashboard/online application portal to access this information or reach out to our admissions team on +91 8824400600

Q2. I want to accept my offer; how much do I need to pay?

At the time of accepting the offer, applicants are required to pay a ‘one-time admission fee’ of INR 75,000. The ‘one-time admission fee’ will be adjusted when completing the year 1 tuition fee payment.

Additionally, students are required to pay a refundable security deposit of INR 20,000. The security deposit amount will be refunded after the convocation to the student.

The rest of the tuition fee and residential fee will be payable before the start of the programme. The timelines and details regarding payment of balance amount will be accessible in the student dashboard. Applicants will also be notified via email.

Q3. How can I pay the fees?

You can pay the fees by logging in to your dashboard. More information will be provided at the time of receiving your result.

Q4. I’m eligible to apply to BITS Law School but cannot afford the fees. Can I expect any assistance from BITS Law School?

Yes. BITS Law School provides financial assistance in the form of Merit and Means Based Scholarships, Scholarships of Excellence, and Regional and Demographic Diversity/Gender/Persons with Special Needs (PWSN) Scholarships.

Additionally, we seek to assist students with financing by ensuring the easy availability of education loans. We have collaborated with several banks to offer customised education loans at attractive rates.

Q5. When can I apply for an education loan?

Students can apply for an education loan after accepting the admission offer and paying the security deposit.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Q1. What are the types of scholarships that I can apply for?

At BITSLAW, we are committed to enabling access to high quality legal education through scholarships based on merit, financial capability, special needs, as well as scholarships to ensure diversity in gender and geography. Three special Birla Scholarships for Legal Studies will be awarded to four law aspirants who are offered admission to BITSLAW. In addition to the special Birla Scholarships for Legal Studies, three other scholarships will be awarded to law aspirants who are granted admissions to BITSLAW.

Decisions on scholarships will be shared with applicants at the time of receiving their offer letter from BITS Law School.

INFRASTRUCTURE/CAMPUS

Q1. Where is BITS Law School located?

BITS Law School is located in Mumbai. For the interim period, the Law School campus is at the Hiranandani Knowledge Park located in Powai. From August 2024 onwards, the Law School will shift to a lush, 63 acre campus in Kalyan, Mumbai.

Q2. What facilities are provided on the campus?

Apart from access to the classrooms and the library, students have access to dining facilities, a cafe, common rooms, a computer lab, and other such facilities. The campus also has a first aid centre.

HOUSING

Q1. Does BITS Law School provide accommodation for outstation students?

Yes. Our programmes are residential and all students are expected to live in housing provided by the school. Each student has a shared room and shared toilet facilities. Students also have access to shared kitchenettes.

Q2. Is it mandatory for all students to live on campus?

Yes, our programmes are fully residential and all students are required to live on campus.

Q3. What facilities will be provided at the residences?

All students have access to recreational areas in the residence, including dining and recreational. Additionally, students will have access to laundry, printing, and photocopying services (paid services). A limited parking facility is also available.

Q4. Can I see the accommodation services before taking admission?

Yes, you and your family members can see the accommodation as part of campus visits.

Q5. How far is the campus from the residences?

At our permanent campus, the student residence is within the campus.
